World without sound

I was on the train back home. Was feeling quite drowsy after some jugs at M Bar. Fortunately, I found a seat on the train and manage to rest my head against the wall comfortably. I was listening to my MP3 player and slept for awhile.

When I woke up, I realised that the people around me are talking. Not through mouth, but hand signal. There are many types of people communicating with each other. Some are young, innocent looking, some are wild with tattoos. Assuming that showing the middle finger means 'fuck you', I don't understand the rest of their conversation.

This incident made me realised that these people are from a different social class as us. I believe few abled people would despise them, but they choose to be a group by themselves. Besides, I see how these different type of people can come together and be friends because of their common disability.

I would very much like to talk to them but they wouldn't be able to hear me, I guess. Thus, this should be the boundary that set us worlds apart. After watching them, I feel the need for all abled people to learn sign language in order to bring these people back into the society. I hope that this way will allow them to feel more comfortable and able to mingle with the abled people.

A short scout for cymbals

Today I manage to ask XF out to accompany me to look for cymbals. Cymbals can be real expensive. Unfortunately, the cymbals that produce the most 'right' sound for me are those that are way beyond my budget. Although there are no right and wrong with regards to the sound made by the cymbal, I can't stand thick cymbals for some reason which I can't explain it myself.
I almost bought a Meinl cymbal set for beginner. The crash and hi-hats sound were pretty sweet. But the sound from the ride wasn't what I wanted. So I've decided to continue keeping a lookout for second hand cymbals and also some year-end-sales.
We went to HMV after that. I believe I had kind of bore her to death with excessive talks about music and bands. So XF, here's my apology. =)

FLOW's over, what's next?

Before I go into the insights of the show, I would really like to apologise to all my friends who came to support us but wasn't allowed to enter PURE because they are under 18. It's my fault that I did not realise that earlier. The security was really tight. They made things tough for the artistes that night too.
It was really a pity that they weren't there to watch the performance at PURE because some of the bands at PURE are on par to that of the main stage! Nonetheless, some of our secondary school friends turn up. Naresh even brought his girlfriend along! Awesome!
We enjoyed playing our songs to the audience. Everything was fine except that I've receive feedbacks that one guitar is out of tune and the bass is too loud. I truly hope that these factors did not affect the audience.
Now that the gig is over, I guess all of us need a break. We'll still proceed to write new songs and enter the studio once in a while for recording, but we'll not be performing as often as before.
As for me, I guess I'll take this time off to work and buy some cymbals and a pair of good pedals to compliment my drumkit.

MOS

Today I've received an email confirming our time slot for the gig at MOS. We are the first band playing that night. There will be other bands like Flybar, Ivy's vendetta, Project Ultrasound, Stentorian, Fatskunks, The Nerves, August Star, Sevenfalls, Face Off and many others sharing the same stage. There will be bigger bands playing on the main stage but I'll just advertise these bands because I'm pretty sure those big bands will be publicise much more than ours anyway. Nonetheless, some of the bands that's sharing the stage are finalists of Powerjam and World Battle of the Bands(Singapore), be prepared for a real musical night. Airtime will be playing five to six of our original songs that we're still working on now. Hope we'll all enjoy that night. If anyone is interested in going, do let me know.

Progress

Yesterday was our gig. We got some really valuable feedbacks about our band. As usual, my timing suck and some other shit. I cock up ALL the songs we played so fucking badly that I wish i can hide in the bass drum. After the gig, I regretted not getting beer but some soft drink. But I guess that left me sober to reflect. Guess I really didn't practice the songs for some time and we really shouldn't have played songs that I didn't prepare well. I need confidence.

I found a job. The pay is not exactly good but I'll stick on to it since that will keep me occupied. I hope I'll be able to save up and buy a decent drumset soon.

Recording

Recently, Airtime is trying to make Azli's old mixer to work again. It belongs to his dad. His dad has some quality mics too. Once we're ready, we'll be able to record a demo for Airtime. We're all excited over it. However, there's some upcoming gigs which made us worry too. Time is short and we're trying to finish composing 4 songs before the gigs. Hopefully we can do it. If not, we gotta play covers for the gigs again.

Overdriven

Overdrive was a local hip hop competition featuring Wade Robson as the judge. It was the finals and was held in the Explanade Theatre. Heard that it was the first time a hip hop competition was held there. Perhaps they made the exception because it's Wade.
Anyway, the competition was brilliant. Some of the competitors attempt to infuse some traditional dance steps into the original hip hop moves they had. This created a whole new world of suspense and brought the audience to watch another scope of life in the performance. Some others had attempted to blend some six steps and thomas flair their original hip hop moves.
I believe these dancers had trained very hard for the competition that night. Cheers to their success in making this far.

Gigs

The previous two shows that we had weren't as good as expected. My band mates and I cock up a little here and there. One of which was actually a competition and we didn't manage to get through. I was quite disappointed then.
Nonetheless, I contacted some organisers again. One of them was introduced by Linus. Both organisers are willing to give us the slots on the 13th and 29th of october at Gashaus.
After our last gig, we decided to focus more on metal genre. It wasn't a tough decision for me to suggest the change since I have a genuine interest in developing my footwork on the pedals and I love the intriguing solos on the guitar.
However, we aren't really prepared this time round. We have intention of playing our original songs for the gigs but they aren't ready yet. I was thinking of dropping the idea of going for the 13th gig since it's a little rush for us to prepare too. We'll definitely be playing on the 29th. For those who would like to hear some of our original songs or hear some covers from trivium or avenged sevenfold, do contact me for details on the gig. Tickets will be sold at $10 each.
Do ask Linus about his upcoming gig on the 20th too. His band will be playing metal too.
Below are some info on my band.

AIRTIME
Azli - Guitar/main vox
Han - Guitar/vox
Meng - Bass/vox
Leng - Drums

After Exams

I wasn't sure if I'm doing the right thing. I guess it's only for me to find out the answer. I'm struggling with my studies in MI. Hence I was told perhaps going to a polytechnic next year might be better. So I made up my mind recently and decided to go poly. Even though I'm going poly, I was told to stay in MI for the time being til I secure a place elsewhere. If not I'll have to go National Service.
During this Examination period, I saw how hard my friends work to get promoted. I saw my friends' eyebags. I heard them complaining how tired they are studying late through the night. Me? I was sleeping soundly at 11pm sharp. I went to Sharifa's house one night to study. I saw how she study and got a shock. I've never studied like this in my entire life. I've never seat on a chair more than an hour just to read my notes and revise whatever shit on the table. I felt so ashame of myself. Now I look back and thought,"What the fuck have I done for the entire year?" I made the choice to go MI and I slacked through out the entire year.
While some of them might be feeling relieve that the examination is over. Others started to get worried for their grades. I felt guilty of landing myself in such situation. Such dilemma.
For now, I've decided to start planning for my future. Once I get into a polytechnic, I'll get things straighten out. I won't wanna let myself or anyone else down again. It's my life. Screw it once or twice- it's really up to me.

A teacher

There is this particular teacher in my school who had recently called up the parents of some friends of mine in my class. Complains are with regards to some problems which he think has to be rectify. The problems are like sleeping in class and distracting classmates. One of my friend cried after knowing his father had answered the call. There are a few things which I don't see why the teacher should be calling the parents.

Their behaviour were like this since the beginning of the year. If anything has to be change, he should have done it earlier. If notifying their parents is necessary, he could have done it earlier. After his conversation with the parents, he let the students involved know. The fact that he makes the phone call right before our GP paper makes me think deep of his intention. He is a teacher. I certainly hope he is not someone who's so fucking childish to the extent that he would want to demoralise his students right before an important examination which determines our promotion.

Teachers are human beings. They have emotions. They have the right to love, to hate. They also have the right to be jealous to bear grudges and to seek revenge. Still, I hope to see more impartial and upright teachers around. It will benefit the teaching industry in guiding the future leaders of our society, greatly.

Chapter One, First Page.

HAHA I GOT BLOG! HAHA! Actually I created this blog so that I can write some comments for my friends. Although I have no intention to start writing an online journal, but who knows, I might continue writing! Guess this will be where I'll vent out all my stress and anger. I'll also try to write some of my thoughts on the events that's going on around me. Yeah and so, that's all the shit I have right now and there goes my virgin post.
